The Fourth of July is always a favorite holiday at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort as it’s our birthday! This year, on July 4, we’re celebrating 134 years of delivering the benefits of hot springs soaking and America’s birthday by giving away red-white-and-blue, Mardi Gras-style necklaces while supplies last. Plus, there will be beach balls all around, which has become our custom on Independence Day.
When Sopris Splash Zone opens at 11 a.m., kids will find Hanging Lake Pool and the zero-entry area bedazzled with beach balls, and the rest will then be distributed in the big pool. The goal is to have everyone toss the blow-up balls in the air at once for colorful photos and videos to celebrate the day.
Just in time for Independence Day, two new cabanas have been added, bringing the total to seven mini-sanctuaries for the ultimate in relaxation while enjoying a day by the pool. Also, check out the newly renovated Therapy Pool that reopened on May 27.
Sopris Splash Zone Fun
Speaking of significant birthdays, July marks the third anniversary of Sopris Splash Zone on the west end of the pool. The family friendly aquatic park features the Shoshone Chutes river tube ride, Hanging Lake Pool and Grand Fountain, which is a splash pad during the day and a lighted show fountain at night. Sopris Splash Zone is open 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. and is included in pool admission cost.
Flashback
The pool, financed and built by Walter Devereux, opened to the public on July 4, 1888. Glenwood Hot Springs soon became a world-renowned resort and had 42 sunken Roman baths, a men’s casino and a physician’s office in the early days. Today, the resort features the world’s largest natural hot springs pool, lodge and athletic club.
Treat Yourself
Instead of worrying about preparing your own picnic spread at home or securing a reservation at a local establishment, indulge in delicious Americana fare at the poolside Grill. Mouthwatering hamburgers, hotdogs, fries, onion rings and nachos and healthier fare such as grilled chicken sandwiches, wraps, salads and soups are on the menu. When arriving at the pool ask one of our cashiers about the Splash & Snack deal, which includes pool entry, a combo meal for adults or kids at the Grill and a 10% discount at The Shop.
The walk-up Snack Bar window offers a slightly smaller lineup along with smoothies, twist cones (you can really get in the spirit with red and blue flavor burst colors), sundaes, root beer floats and doughnuts. While relaxing on the west end of the pool near Sopris Splash Zone in summer months, Red Brick Eats food truck is the place to find pizza, chicken fingers, hot dogs, smoothies and ice cream.
Local Festivities
If you want to come and go throughout the day to join in the City of Glenwood Springs’ Independence Day festival in Two Rivers Park, it’s no problem, as a day pass and season pass holders can come and go as they please during the pool’s business hours from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Highlights of the Independence Day celebration that runs from 4:30-9:30 p.m. include bounce houses, lawn games, axe throwing, face painting, food vendors, live music and a laser show that replaces fireworks this year.
Celebrate the Fourth of July at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort and savor a day of fun and hot springs soaking for all ages.
