Silver Kings Suite in the Hotel 1888 at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort
Poolside hotel opening at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort on June 12
Glenwood Springs, Colorado (June 10, 2025) – Hotel 1888, the newest hotel in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, also is rich in tradition. Located within the historic Stone Bath House at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort, the boutique hotel will host its first guests on June 12. The Stone Bath House is situated alongside the world’s largest hot springs pool, the Grand Pool, which is one of seven geothermal hot springs pools open year-round at the resort.
Hotel 1888’s name comes from the fact that the resort opened to great fanfare on July 4, 1888, which continues to be day of celebration at the pools. When guests stay in one of Hotel 1888’s 16 luxury guest rooms, including two high-end suites, they immediately have a glimpse of the rich history of this iconic Colorado attraction. Architectural details are a focal point and the artwork throughout features collected artifacts, postcards and photos, with several sourced from the collections of Glenwood Springs Historical Society and Denver Public Library.
A rich blue paint color, luxurious linens, tasteful patterned wallpaper, high ceilings, large windows and modern, upscale bathrooms are highlights of all guest rooms. The two suites provide additional room to relax and water views, with Silver Kings Suite featuring a private balcony overlooking the Grand Pool, and 1888 Suite having windows that frame the Colorado River and downtown streetscapes.
“Hotel 1888 is ideal for relaxing getaways for couples and friends, wedding groups, executive and board retreats, and incentive trips. Hotel 1888 guests are invited to relax in European-style elegance with complimentary breakfast in the 1888 Bistro, unlimited soaking in the seven mineral hot springs pools during business hours, and access to the full-service Athletic Club, also located in the Stone Bath House,” says Loretta Ayala, resort hotel manager for Glenwood Hot Springs Resort.
Stone Bath House History
Features like the original fireplace in the 1888 Suite echo back to a time when the Stone Bath House building was designed by Austrian architect Theodore von Rosenberg. Constructed at a cost of $100,0000 using sandstone from the former Peach Blow Quarry near Basalt, the Stone Bath House originally featured a billiard parlor, casino, reading room, physician’s office, smoking room, coffee kitchen, and 42 interior Roman Baths and dressing rooms. Guests enjoyed the luxury of electric lighting, private call bells that rang bath house attendants, and hot and cold running water inside the building.
Additional Resort Upgrades
Hotel 1888 is one of two options for staying overnight at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort. The family-friendly Lodge at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort, located across the street from the pool on Sixth Street, joins Hotel 1888 in offering the ultimate in comfort as well as two conference rooms. A total refresh of all 107 Lodge guest rooms and suites wrapped up in March.
Yampah Mineral Baths, introduced on the east end of the resort’s pool complex in May 2024, features five spacious pools of varying temperatures (including two cold plunge pools), waterfalls, a grotto, a fireplace with lounging area, and more. Yampah Mineral Baths is open to all guests with a pool pass and becomes adults only at 5 p.m.
Source Spring & Pool Details
The natural mineral hot springs water that fills the pools comes directly from the on-site Yampah Source Spring, which produces 3.5 million gallons daily. The water has long contributed to the resort’s sustainability as it is used to heat the resort’s buildings; heat water for showers and the laundry facilities; and melt snow from the pool deck and sidewalks.
The pools are open to day guests and overnight guests from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. the rest of the year. No reservations are required to use the pools, there are no time limits, and guests can come and go all day long as they please.
