Local business has awarded $295,000 to local students since 1995
Glenwood Springs, Colorado (June 8, 2026) – Jacob Cordova is the latest recipient of the Glenwood Hot Springs Resort Higher Education Scholarship. Many exceptional students from the Roaring Fork Valley submitted applications, and Cordova was presented $16,000 for his college education based on demonstrated excellence as a student and an employee of Glenwood Hot Springs Resort.
For 31 years running, Glenwood Hot Springs Resort has helped young people achieve their dreams of improving their future through continued learning. The Glenwood Hot Springs Resort Higher Education Scholarship was created in 1995 to financially assist goal-oriented individuals attend accredited institutions of higher learning, including four-year colleges and universities, community colleges or trade schools. To date, Glenwood Hot Springs Resort has awarded $295,000 to deserving young people, with scholarships payable per semester over the course of four years and requiring each recipient to be a student in good standing.
Cordova, son of Jason and Ginger Cordova of Silt, graduated from Coal Ridge High School in May and plans to attend the electrical lineman technical program at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction. He has excelled at advanced academics while also working as a lifeguard at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort. Cordova is a National Honor Society student and has enjoyed athletic success, being named to the Track & Field All-State First Team, receiving honorable mention as a football defenseman, and taking part in the 4A state champion co-ed cheerleading team. In addition, Cordova participates in wrestling and baseball, volunteers with multiple area nonprofits and school programs, and enjoys fly-fishing and camping in his free time.
When presented with the scholarship, Cordova shared that he is pursuing a career in electrical line
work due to a love for being outdoors and a desire to do something meaningful. “Being a lineman is much more than just a job, it is a career that takes discipline, dedication and pride in helping the community.” He added, “This scholarship is bringing me a step closer to the future goals that I dream of achieving. The scholarship money that I have received will help cover tuition, tools, equipment and other costs needed for this program.”
