Glenwood Hot Springs Resort Awards $11,000 in Higher Education Scholarships

Three area students receive scholarships to pursue future academic plans

Glenwood Springs, Colorado (May 18, 2022) – Emmalee Machart, Elizabeth Parker and Genesis Quintero are the recipients of the 2022 Glenwood Hot Springs Resort Higher Education Scholarship. A total of $11,000 was awarded this year, with Parker and Quintero receiving $5,000 and Machart $1,000 for their college educations.

For 27 years running, Glenwood Hot Springs Resort (GHSR) has helped young people achieve dreams for their future through continued learning. The scholarship was created in 1995 to financially assist goal-oriented individuals attend accredited institutions of higher learning, including four-year colleges and universities, community colleges and trade schools. To date, Glenwood Hot Springs Resort has given away $243,000 to deserving young people.

Genesis Quintero, a senior at Roaring Fork High School, plans to study nursing at Regis University in Denver. She is the daughter of Juan and Mayra Quintero of Carbondale. Juan is the facilities maintenance director at GHSR, and Genesis worked at the resort’s poolside Grill last summer. She has been involved in student council, National Honor Society, Link Leaders and Roaring Fork Pre-collegiate program. Genesis also was a starter and captain for varsity basketball and soccer, served as a Roaring Fork Valley Soccer Club volunteer coach for U8 soccer, and helped with fundraising during Carbondale’s Potato Days.

Elizabeth Parker recently finished her freshman year at University of Colorado Boulder, where she is a pre-nursing/nursing student. She graduated from Coal Ridge High School last year, is the daughter of James Parker and Julieta Martinez of New Castle, and is working as a lifeguard this summer at GHSR. Elizabeth initially chose CU to study music education, but a love for lifeguarding and helping people has prompted her to switch to nursing. At Coal Ridge High School, she received varsity letters for band, track and soccer as well as an academic letter all four years. Elizabeth also played basketball, participated in multiple band events, and was selected for All-State Honor Band from her sophomore through senior years.

Emmalee Machart, a senior at Roaring Fork High School, plans to pursue psychology at University of Colorado Boulder and was accepted into the McNeill Academic Program, which is a multicultural learning community. Emmalee has been responsible for herself for the last five years, requiring amazing determination and hard work. She has served on student council, was a pre-collegiate scholar in 11th and 12th grades and has been active in Outdoor Club, GEEK Squad and Future Business Leaders of America. Emmalee has helped at vaccination clinics, food banks, child advocacy centers and community events and served as a mentor and leader for youth and teen programs at school and for outside agencies.
