Who is being honored during October’s Bring a Friend days?

This fall the Bring a Friend event is in recognition of Floyd Diemoz, whose journey with Glenwood Hot Springs Resort and commitment to community demonstrate how one person can make a major impact. Floyd began serving on the Glenwood Hot Springs Resort Board of Directors in 1983 and spent several years on the executive board. He retired from the board 37 years later, in January 2020, with a perfect attendance record for board meetings.

Born in 1937, Floyd graduated from the local Garfield County High School in 1955 and married his high school sweetheart, Lavonne Conto, in 1956. After graduating from the University of Denver in 1959 with a degree in electrical engineering, he worked for Southern California Edison in Los Angeles, California. Two years later, the couple returned to Glenwood Springs, where Floyd worked for his family’s construction business, Diemoz Construction, and they raised their two children.

For more than 50 years, Floyd was involved in the construction and remodeling of many commercial and residential buildings in Glenwood Springs and the Roaring Fork Valley, including at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort. He also served on the First National Bank of Glenwood Springs Board of Directors and has been a member of Glenwood Springs Rotary for 60 years. Floyd assisted in starting the local Elks Lodge chapter in the early 1960s and helped launch Sunlight Mountain Resort as an early investor and stockholder.

When it was announced in 1965 that the four-lane Interstate 70 would advance through Glenwood Canyon, Floyd expressed concern about road construction techniques used at the time and advocated for a design that would preserve the canyon’s magnificent beauty. As a result, he was appointed to the Citizens’ Advisory Committee by the Colorado Highway Commission. On Oct. 14, 1992, Floyd gave the keynote address at the grand opening ceremony held within the eastbound Hanging Lake Tunnel. Little did he know at the time that almost exactly 33 years later there would be Bring a Friend days held in his honor at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort!
