Congratulations Jacob!
We are excited to announce Jacob Cordova as the newest recipient of the Glenwood Hot Springs Resort Higher Education Scholarship. Many exceptional students from the Roaring Fork Valley presented applications to be evaluated. The annual endowment, again this year totaling $16,000.00, is awarded based on excellence as a student and as an employee of Glenwood Hot Springs Resort.
For 31 years running, Glenwood Hot Springs Resort has helped young people achieve their dreams of improving their future through continued learning. The Glenwood Hot Springs Resort Higher Education Scholarship was created in 1995 to financially assist goal-oriented individuals attend accredited institutions of higher learning, including four-year colleges and universities, community colleges or trade schools. To date, Glenwood Hot Springs Resort has awarded $295,000 to deserving young people. This award is payable per semester over the course of four years and requires each candidate to be a student in good standing.
Jacob is a senior at Coal Ridge High School and plans to attend the electrical lineman technical program at Colorado Mesa University. He is the son of Jason and Ginger Cordova of Silt. Jason has excelled at advanced academics while also working as a lifeguard at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort. He is a National Honor Society student, All State First Team Track & Field, football honorable mention defenseman, a varsity wrestler, participated in baseball, and is a member of the 4A State Champion CO-ED cheerleading team. In his spare time, Jacob likes to fly fish and camp. He has also volunteered with multiple non-profits and school programs, and excels at being a natural leader and mentor.
When presented with his scholarship, Jacob said,” I plan to pursue a career path in electrical line work. I chose this career because I enjoy working outdoors and it’s a career that allows me to build a future while doing something meaningful. Being a lineman is much more than just a job, it is a career that takes discipline, dedication and pride in helping the community. Receiving this scholarship will make a huge impact on my life because it will help reduce the financial pressure of school expenses, and let me focus more on training and becoming successful in the program. This scholarship is bringing me a step closer to the future goals that I dream of achieving. The scholarship money that I have received will help cover tuition, tools, equipment and other costs needed for this program. With this support, it will allow me to be fully committed to completing my education and becoming an amazing worker. I just want to thank everyone involved in this scholarship for the consideration and support.”
