Fresh, Funky & Family-Friendly: Glenwood Hot Springs Interiors Get a New Look

In addition to adding an adventure river and other aquatic attractions to the west end of the property, Glenwood Hot Springs Resort is also revamping interior spaces at the Lodge and Athletic Club.

With so much work currently going on at the world-famous hot springs pool to prepare for the new aquatic adventure zone to open in summer 2019, the resort’s other big initiative isn’t getting nearly as much attention. Though when completed, it will impact every Lodge and Club guest. Earlier this month, Glenwood Hot Springs Resort embarked on the beginning of a multi-phase remodeling project that will impact how key public spaces will look and be utilized by visitors and members.

Glenwood Hot Springs retained the services of Denver-based Ohlson Lavoie Collaborative (OLC), a design firm specializing in creating beautiful, functional spaces for athletic clubs, fitness centers, medical facilities, recreation centers, day spas and a broad range of aquatic projects. They are known for producing warm, welcoming and modern environments for the wellness market.

“These Club and Lodge remodel projects are just the start of a multi-year plan designed to update our existing guest areas to improve comfort and style,” Chief Operations Officer and Vice President of Glenwood Hot Springs John Bosco said. “The design will complement the coming additions to the Glenwood Hot Springs Resort experience in the next four or five years.”

A Mountain Modern Vibe Will Welcome Guests

At the Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge, the main lobby, corridor and the downstairs seating area are undergoing a comprehensive renovation featuring an entirely new mountain-yet-modern aesthetic. The overall design will reinforce the beauty and natural wonder of the hot springs by drawing on geological shapes and colors though flooring, wallcoverings and furnishings. The design features neutral colors with blue and green accents, sleek shapes and natural materials like quartz countertops and wood-accents. The modern backdrop provides a counterpoint that showcases the resort’s collection of original Western art by painter Jack Roberts.

The main lobby’s focal points will be a large geode wall mural and rock-shaped pendant lights to celebrate the geology of the hot springs and natural formations of the area. Corridor highlights include new carpeting, wall coverings and all new guest-room doors with a state-of-the-art lock system.

“It was important to the client to preserve the story of the Glenwood Hot Springs while providing an updated décor which was family-friendly,” Principal and Senior Interior Designer Brenda Amsberry said. “OLC accomplished this by using geometric shapes representative of surrounding terrain and a modernized blend of funky lines and curves with comfortable, natural elements and forms.”

Spaces Designed for Socializing and Surfing

The Lodge’s downstairs lobby, the space between its two conference rooms, will be transformed into an area where guests can congregate, play board games, use the internet and socialize. A black and white historical photo from the resort’s photo archive will be the dominant feature in this space. “OLC was allowed to push the boundaries beyond a safe design,” Amsberry said. “We believe this is really a new design genre blending the old with the new and the natural with the modern.”

As for the Athletic Club lobby remodel, it will become more socially interactive while still incorporating the historical aspects of the space. Communal seating areas will be clustered into smaller cozy conversational enclaves where members and guests can check emails or messages on the resort’s complimentary WiFi, charge their devices, read a book or wait comfortably for their party before or after their Club visit. Seating areas will feature modern versions of the classic wing-back chair, soothing blue and warm brown hues.

The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by May 2019. Future renovations will include redesigning the bathhouse entrance, locker rooms and restaurant for a more upscale experience.
